Paul Klee (18 December 1879 – 29 June 1940) was a Swiss-German artist.
He was one of the most famous painters of the 20th century.

His mother, born Ida Maria Frick, came from Basel in Switzerland. His father, Hans Klee, came from Tann, a small town in the Hesse state of Germany.
